Bergen is named after the region in Norway wheres Lars Maruis Garshul isolated a number of traditional Norwegian yeast strain. Bergen is traditionally used in the production of Norwegian Farmhouse Ales.

It is a fast fermenter with good attenuation, a light earthy spiciness, marked tartness and a unique ester profile of orange peel.

At the cooler end of the range Bergen is clean; producing little to no esters and phenols. But builds a huge fruit ester profile as the temperature increases.

We highly recommend a Dry Ice Pack or two for your yeasts voyage OR for a short stay in our pick up lockers in the warmer months of the year.
Please choose Australia Post Express if you want to reduce the the risk of transit time delay and its affect on your yeast.

Bluestone Yeast - Bergen (BSY-A038)

Bergen is named after the region in Norway wheres Lars Maruis Garshul isolated a number of traditional Norwegian yeast strain. Bergen is traditionally used in the production of Norwegian Farmhouse Ales.

It is a fast fermenter with good attenuation, a light earthy spiciness, marked tartness and a unique ester profile of orange peel.

This strain is prone to forming incredibely large flocs unlike any other yeast we've seen before, yet still remains highly attenuative.

Bergen also exhibits the ability to ferment wort over a large temperature range, 21-37°C.

At the cooler end of the range Bergen is clean; producing little to no esters and phenols. But builds a huge fruit ester profile as the temperature increases.

Attenuation 73% - 78%
Flocculation High
Growth Temp Range 21°C - 37°C

To ensure a healthy fermentation it is a good idea to incorporate some yeast nutrient in your brewing. You can purchase some here.

The benefits of using yeast nutrient are described in the pdf and video below:
